Liturgical Music

Music is a vital, dynamic force here at St. Joseph Church. 

Those with the musical ability and desire to express their faith through music will find the various programs in music ministry rewarding, no matter what their level of proficiency.  There are several groups to choose from.

Adult Choir  (18 + older)
Dr. Ernie Barretta
This 35 - 40 member group sings September through May at the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays, and other major Solemnities (e.g. Christmas Eve, Holy Week, etc.); additional performances have included concert appearances with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony. 

The group sings a variety of traditional choir literature, medieval to modern day. While auditions are not required to join the group, prior choral experience and/or the ability to read music is a definite plus.

Rehearsals..........Tuesdays, 7 pm - 9 pm

Adult Contemporary Choir (audition required)
Dave Schafer
This group primarily focuses on a style of musical worship which has grown out of the folk tradition, also giving traditional hymnody a contemporary flair. The group sings regularly throughout the year at the Saturday 4:30 mass. Due to its small size (10 -15 members) and its inclusion of instruments, an audition is required. This group is ideal for those who both sing and play instruments, and enjoy this style.

 Children's Choir   (grades 3, 4 & 5)
Dr. Ernie Baretta
This group meets October through May. They sing monthly at the 10:30 am Sunday Mass. A yearly Christmas musical is done.

Junior Choir (grades 6 - 8)

This group is the latest addition to the Music Ministry at St. Joseph. They meet October through May and sing monthly at Sunday Mass. In addition, the group does performances in the community and a Christmas musical.

Youth Contemporary Group  (grades 9 - 12, audition required)

Modeled after the Adult Contemporary Group, this high-school age performs once a month at the Saturday, 4:30 Mass.

Resurrection Choir (for Funerals)
Dave Schafer
A much-appreciated ministry, this group assists in the liturgical music done at funeral Masses.  Due to the short notice and flexible schedule needed, membership fluctuates.  If you have a flexible work schedule and enjoy singing, please consider this ministry.
