Ushers

Ushers are the first ministers of hospitality. By welcoming the people with a smile, and assisting in seating, they open our parish arms to embrace the friend and the stranger.  All assembled are responsible for the act of hospitality, but the usher is specifically assigned the responsibility of guiding the way by example.

The first measure of our hospitality is how we express it as a community at our gatherings. Ushers help make people feel welcome, help find available seats, and introduce people to each other. They also take an attendance count and take up the collection and ensure its safekeeping. They recruit a family or group of individuals who will bring forth the bread, wine and collection. They hand out bulletins or other materials. They assist those who need special help. They answer questions.  They remain a few minutes after Mass to make sure that the Church is cleared of any left-over bulletins and other materials.

This ministry is crucial to our Gospel mandate to welcome each other.

Ministry formation and training sessions are offered throughout the year with the expectation of regular attendance. No experience is necessary, just a desire to serve. Ushers are expected to be present 15 minutes before Mass and to dress properly.
