MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

The CCD Family of St. Joseph Church, sees itself as that group of human beings who are united by their common bond of faith in Jesus Christ and who find their common spiritual home to be the church of St. Joseph. Through the riches of the Catholic present and the riches of the Catholic past, this family of Jesus Christ attempts to discover the meaning and purpose of human life and to share this faith- filled knowledge and lived experience with our children. It sees God as calling every creature to be itself. It sees human beings as called to use every human talent to discover the possibilities of their own humanity and to labor to bring those possibilities to fulfillment. In this work it acknowledges that the constant, enabling presence of God is indispensable. The family of the Lord sees Jesus Christ as fully human. It sees Him also as fully divine. It sees in Jesus the accomplishment of all the possibilities that reside in humanity and looks to Him and to His life for the light of understanding what humanity must be and what humanity can become in our own day. It sees the family of Jesus to be united to His living presence through the gift of divine life. It accepts the sacraments as unfailing sources of divine promise and as real and continued stirrings of divine power on behalf of both the individual and the entire family. It accepts the face of growing knowledge and experience of the human race and seeks to discover how this knowledge and experience further enlightens human beings about themselves, about the world in which we live and about God. It humbly acknowledges that the faith of each member of the family supports and strengthens the faith of every other member. It pledges itself to reverence the person of every human being, including each person's own self, to pass on the heritage of our faith to our children with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to see as the highest accomplishment the facilitating of genuine human growth in oneself and others. It seeks, in its judgments, decisions and behavior, to place the value of persons above the value of things and, by so doing, it hopes to bring to visible presence in our community that kind of love which was modeled and lived by Jesus Himself. To the extent that the family succeeds in its purposes it hopes to find warmth and joy in worship, openness to new learning, courageous acceptance of the humanness of all, generosity in forgiveness, liberality in service and fidelity in the support of the family and its necessary works. It prays that it cooperates always with the Holy Spirit and that in return it be granted a deep, discernible union with Jesus Christ, in and through the members of His family, taken as individuals or as a family.
