" For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Luke 12:34

Our God is a giving God. Our world, our families, our lives, our salvation are all freely given. Jesus calls us to transform our hearts to be like God's, "You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect ." Matthew 5:48

Part of being a disciple of Jesus is to be giving. Our giving should also be intentional. We are entrusted with time, talents and treasure. The one who knows that everything is a gift from God the Father looks for ways to give back Him--from a grateful heart. Our giving back to God the Father should also be sacrificial in nature, patterned after the example of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Tithe

The word "tithe" means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn't giving something to God. It's giving back what was His to begin with. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from God the Father. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives.

We encourage you to look at your giving in the context of what it means to truly follow Jesus. Take some time, in prayer, on where you are in your giving. Is your giving planned? Is it a priority? What percentage do you currently give back to God?

The Offertory, or Collection, at Mass is an integral part of the Sunday liturgy, not just because it is the primary means by which the parish receives financial support from the parishioners, but because it is also an expression of our gratitude to God for the blessings He has given us to return a portion of them back to Him for use by His Church.

As Catholics, not only do we support our parish family, but also our greater community around us. At St. Joseph's Fullerton, you can give online to the second collection of your choosing. The Second Collection page has lots of different options for you to make an offering. The Archdiocese of Baltimore's second collections allow us to give resources to both our region and the world. Find this year’s collection schedule here.

God's house here at St. Joseph's Fullerton is about to be fifty years old. Many of the systems not only require maintenance but also need to be replaced. Help us be good stewards of His Church by maintaining all that He has given us.
