Talitha Qum Program in Cartagena, Colombia

ORIGIN  TALITHA QUM - Archdiocese of Cartagena was born in 2014 in response to the social problems to which children and adolescents of the San Francisco neighborhood are exposed (abuse, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, early pregnancies, domestic and neighborhood violence...). since its inception was directed by the religious Blanca Nubia López Rendón, of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, who has given it a focus on the defense of rights and human dignity. In 2016 the Archdiocese of Cartagena, seeing the positive impacts generated, oriented its expansion around the Ciénaga de la Virgen.

GOAL Empower the girls and adolescents of the Talitha Qum Program of the Archdiocese of Cartagena in prevention of abuse, sexual exploitation and human trafficking, through a comprehensive training process, having as a fundamental basis the strengthening of human-Christian values and the evangelization with an impact on the family and society.

BENEFICIARY POPULATION The Program is located in Cartagena de Indias; in the execution stage with 3 locations, attending a direct population of 100 girls and adolescents between 9 and 17 years old and an indirect population of 400 people who represent the members of their families.

THE TALITHA QUM PROGRAM
-Generates new possibilities, new knowledge in girls and adolescents at risk.
-Opens the way to the recognition of identity.
-Strengthens the socio-family environment by creating safe environments.
-It is effective in the fulfillment of processes and actions.
-Seeks new articulations and renews alliances permanently reinforcing the learning processes in the beneficiary population.
-Strengthens the critical capacity of girls and adolescents to see the realities with other points of view that allow them to think of a beneficial life project.
-It allows girls-adolescents to be multiplying agents, imparting the knowledge learned, especially to their peer groups and impacting social transfor-mation.
-It is light in the midst of darkness, it educates, teaches, prevents, protect, empower.

Check out these recent photos taken at the Talitha Qum Center in Cartagena, Columbia, by the Chair of our International Outreach Committee, Mrs Glenda Habeych-Randall and her husband Mitch. The funds we have sent are being used to finish work on the center and strengthen the security fencing around the center.

    With the objective of strengthening the accompaniment of adolescent girls in pandemic times, and with a vision of the future, the need is created to have a minimum of 7 desktop computers, per (3) headquarters, in such a way that, at serve the population alternatively, we can respond effectively to the demands of education today.
