I hope you and your family are well. I am happy to say, through prayer and patience, Religious Education will begin in September. Due to Covid concerns, our model has changed to a family home-based program, which will help the family convey and pass on the truths of the faith to their children. We are asking you to be prompt in registering your family for this year’s Faith Formation, please register by September 30th. To better understand how this program works, you will be required to attend an orientation meeting on Wednesday, September 9th, 16th or 23rd at 7pm in the Parish Center. At this time, you will receive and be instructed on the course material. Once registration is complete, you will be sent a link to sign up for the orientation date you would prefer. As expected, we will be complying with all recommendations and requirements regarding Covid.
Following orientation, we will have a Family Formation gathering every Wednesday evening at 7pm starting September 30th. Based on registration numbers, we will have selected families assigned to one Wednesday a month. Those children who are signed up for our Religious Education program are encouraged to attend with a parent. Any families who have a child(ren) receiving their First Holy Communion will receive separate instructions at a later date.
Again, please register online https://stjoefullerton.org/formation/religious-ed by September 30th. Thank you for your cooperation during these trying times. I look forward to working with you and your family in rediscovering our faith not only as a family community but also as a church community!
WHAT IS CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD?
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an introduction to God’s Word for the younger children of our parish about why scripture is important to our lives. During Children’s Liturgy of the Word, volunteers celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in language geared towards children from a special Lectionary for children. The readings and message remain the same as the Sunday Mass to allow parents to discuss the readings with their children.
What happens during Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
Children begin Mass with their families, and after the opening prayer the celebrant or deacon will call the children to the altar for a special blessing before dismissing them. The Children follow adult volunteers to the Upper Room for prayer, scripture reading, discussion, and activity. After the homily, the children re-enter the church for the offertory and remainder of Mass.
Why send your children for Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
Consider Children’s Liturgy of the Word as a tool to further your child’s understanding of scripture and a springboard for family discussion.
Volunteer teachers and assistants are needed!
